Step 1: Having fitted your nock cut the shaft to the required length. Step 2: Using a pair of pliers carefully compress the end of the shaft to the depth of the pile. Personally I use a taper tool to bevel the very end of the shaft to help with fitting. Step 3: Take some non slip matting, available from motor shops, and use one piece to hold the shaft. Use a second piece and an old finger tab or piece of leather to hold the pile with the pliers. Now screw on the pile. You can use your glue if you prefer. Step 4: Using a spare shaft check to ensure that the pile has been screwed on to the full depth of the pile. Step 5: Ensure all shafts are the same length
Fitting a screw on pile
The screw on pile comes in various weights and is available in both target and field points. It is quick and easy to fit and does not require a glue if preferred. It is a great asset when experimenting with pile weights.
One additional tip. When removing arrows from a target, twist gently in a clockwise direction. This will ensure your piles do not unscrew when removing from targets. Should you lose a pile in a boss, nine times out of ten you can screw the shaft back on whilst the pile is in the boss and recover successfully.
