Tying the Bowyers Knot

A must for all Longbow Archers is tying a Bowyer's Knot. The following, courtesy of

Pip Bickerstaffe, gives a step by step guide to tying the knot.

With practice this will become easy to master.

Step 1

Form Loop as shown

Step 2

Feed tail of string through loop once against the direction of the laying in, study photo!

Step 3

And again feed tail through the loop

Step 4

And again...

Step5

Reform loop by tightening the original loop as shown and pass tail under the loop

Completed Knot

Knot on Bow

Knot fitted to bow, note that the free end of the string is trapped under the loop where the knot will be tightened as the bow is braced. If tied correctly this know should not slip
